The Facebook diaries: March 2016

Geese at a strip mall, daffodils in an empty can, and — of course — magnolias all over the place.
Those are a few of my favorite March photos from my Facebook page.
(I'm compiling them here in case you don't have access to Facebook or you want to scroll through them all at once.)

I’m always adding new ones, so I invite you to take a look whenever you have a minute: www.facebook.com/mrsgardenperson.com.

First, a haiku -- which, as a fourth-grader recently pointed out to me, contains the wrong meter.
(And they say that our public schools are failing!)
Apparently, an authentic haiku goes like this: first line, five syllables; second line, seven syllables; third line, five syllables.
Mine goes 7-5-7. Oops.

What March madness means to me:
purple crocuses,
migratory waterfowl.

Daffodils on a rainy morning. . . . I think this kind of weather makes the colors look more intense.

Today’s daydream:
a Jurassic-theme garden with ferns, cycads and this dapper fellow as the centerpiece.
(He’s currently standing guard over a freeway southwest of Columbus, Ohio.)

If there's one thing better than a handful of daffodils, it's a handful of daffodils in an old wasabi-pea can!

Daffodils, daffodils everywhere!
Here's a bouquet I made several years ago for a wedding, using blooms from my own garden.

Spring comes to the strip mall: Bed, Bath, Geese & Beyond!
The geese didn't seem to mind when I stopped to take their picture -- but the driver behind me honked. Sorry, dude! I was trying to create a pictorial statement about nature and man's insatiable desire for fancy toothbrush holders.

A magnificent magnolia!
This one, a saucer magnolia, has just started blooming in West Jefferson, Ohio -- which, for such a small town, sure has a lot of these stunning trees.

A big thank you to our generous neighbors for dropping off these yummy eggs -- from their own chickens!
When they first gave us some eggs a year or two ago, I wondered whether they would really taste better than grocery-store eggs. Yes, they undoubtedly do.
They're richer, the yolks are more golden, and they just taste more eggy.

The salamanders didn't cooperate during our annual hunt for them along Little Darby Creek in Madison County, Ohio.
(But we did enjoy traipsing through mud and swamp on a rainy night -- really!)
Here's a photo from a couple years ago when we had better luck.

Does anyone else desire a little trifle like this for their yard? I discovered this at Eden Park in Cincinnati; it's called the Spring House Gazebo. Wonder if you could build one with Legos.
